Greetings Big Ten Engineering IT members! The EITC 2013 conference was from October 20 - 22, 2013 in Iowa City, Iowa. The conference attendees were Big Ten University IT professionals from representing 10 of the 14 schools. We shared ideas involving daily operations and long term goals of engineering departments and colleges. This year conference site was on The University of Iowa campus located in downtown Iowa City. The conference hotel was the Sheraton Hotel located only a block from our conference site at University Capital Centre.
Sunday evening we gathered downtown across from the Pedestrian Mall at the Iron Hawk Restaurant, 122 E Washington St. On Monday we heard updates from each of the campuses. We were introduced to the Maryland and Nebraska campuses. Paul spoke on Software compliance issues and Gerald Combs walked us through 15 years of supporting the Open Source software Wireshark (Ethereral). The group took a tour of the new 14.9 Million dollar renovation project to house the UI Student Learning Center. We then regrouped later for dinner at the Wig and Pen.
Tuesday, we had two very good discussions. One on University Wide IT services and the other Fractal worlds on how we can continue to improve and create new niches for supporting engineering programs. Guy Falsetti presented the new UI data Center (ITF) then ending the formal presentations with an open forum discussion. Grab and Go lunch was made available to those attendees on afternoon flights or long drives and the remaining schools took a tour of the College of Engineering Seamans Center IT support areas.
Fred Hall has volunteered Michigan State to host the 2014 EITC Conference.
